Walk in YOUR Newness of Life! {Romans 6:4}
Share
Romans 6:4 states, "Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." This verse speaks to the transformative power of baptism, and the newness of life that comes with it. But what does it mean to "walk in newness of life," and how can we live this out in our daily lives?
To understand what it means to walk in newness of life, we must first understand the context of the verse. In the preceding verses, Paul discusses how we have been crucified with Christ and that we should no longer be slaves to sin. When we are baptized, we are united with Christ in his death and resurrection. We die to our old selves and are raised to new life in Christ.
Walking in newness of life means living in a way that reflects our new identity in Christ. It means turning away from our old sinful ways and embracing the new life that we have been given. It means living with a renewed mind and heart, and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us in all that we do.
One practical way to walk in newness of life is to be intentional about our thoughts and actions. We can ask the Holy Spirit to reveal any areas of our lives where we are still clinging to our old selves, and to help us let go of those things. We can also make a conscious effort to seek out opportunities to serve others and to share the love of Christ with those around us.
Walking in newness of life also means living with a sense of purpose and hope. We know that we have been given new life in Christ, and that our lives have a greater meaning and purpose than just fulfilling our own desires. We can live with confidence and joy, knowing that we are living according to God's will and that we are part of something much greater than ourselves.
In conclusion, walking in newness of life is a daily practice of living out our new identity in Christ. It means turning away from our old sinful ways and embracing the new life that we have been given. It means being intentional about our thoughts and actions, seeking out opportunities to serve others, and living with a sense of purpose and hope. May we all strive to walk in newness of life and live as the new creations that we are in Christ.
